Our fundrasing year ended with our annual visit to Maranello, Italy with the Friends of Ferrri World Champion.

NOV. 10 - VISIT TO MARANELLO, Italy

Franco and Zachary with his parents travelled to Italy for a special gift, the visit to the Ferrari Factory and Museum in Maranello.

It was a fantastic experience for Zachary who was allowed to sit in the car of Formula 1 2007 World Champion, Kimi Raikkonen.

Thanks to Roberto Bortoli for all his kindness to our Friends of Ferrari World Champion, Zachary.

We were guests for lunch at the Restaurant Il Cavallino.  We sat at the same table where Enzo Ferrari held his luncheon meetings.

After lunch we visited the Ferrari Museum where all the cars of the champion Ferrari drivers are housed, i.e.: Gilles Villeneuve, Nigel Mansel, Alain Prost, Nicki Lauda & Michael Schumacher. 

We also visited the Ferrari Store and saw all the fabulous new products on display and we bought some souveniers of our visit before returning to Milan. 

The next day we enjoyed the sights of Milan and great food in the famous Galleria.  Zachary and his family left to visit their extended family living in Italy.

In the evening Franco met with Cav. Bortolussi, Honourary President of Friends of Ferrari and together they attended a Gala Evening at the Teatro dal Verme where they met the stars and entertainers who performed. 

There they presented the total 2007 donation to the Centro Dino Ferrari.  Dott.sa Marialuisa Trussardi accepted the donation with heartfelt thanks and kind regards to all the Friends of Ferrari.  The audience included many of the most important industrialists of Italy who also joined in with their personal congratulations to the Friends of Ferrari for the work which we do to assist various charities.

The following day, Dott.sa Trussardi offered luncheon at the famous Trussardi alla Scala Restaurant, where they were joined by Prof. Bresolin, Dott. Torrenti, Manuela Consensi-Dini, and Dott. Feltri editor of Libero Newspaper who interviewed Cav. Bortolussi and Franco.

After enjoying the food and wine of Italy they said goodbye to their Hostess and recieved an invitation to return in 2008.

OCT. 21 - GALA LUNCHEON

The 300 people in attendance had a wonderful afternoon at our end of year Gala Luncheon at the Sutton Place Hotel.  Special Guests from Italy Dott.ssa Marialuisa Trussardi, Cavaliere of the Republic of Italy, President of the Amici Del Centro Dino Ferrari and Mrs. Manuela Consensi-Dini, Secretary General of the Centro Dino Ferrari flew in from Milan especially for the event.  They thanked us for our incredible hospitality and for our generosity to  the Centro Dino Ferrari.  They brought messages of congratulations from Professor Nereo Bresolin and Dott. Piero Ferrari.  Consul General of the Republic of Italy Uberto Vanni D'Archirafi gave us many kind words as did His Worship, Mayor Sam Sullivan who also proclaimed October 21st FRIENDS OF FERRARI DAY in VANCOUVER and Tony Parsons of Global T.V. was our Master of Ceremonies.  We thank each and everyone of these special guests for making the event a great success.

Zachary, the 2007 Friends of Ferrari World Champion was awarded his Championship T-Shirt, his photo autographed by Michael Schumacher and the exciting gift of a visit to Maranello, Italy as a guest of Ferrari.

SEPT. 23

The Newway Formula One Grand Prix of Canada was our final race for 2007 and a great success. The first and second place drivers from the 5 previous Grand Prix raced for the 2007 Championship.

    Winners – 2007 World Champion – Zachary – 5 years.

          2 nd - Eminem - 5 1/2 years

          3 rd - Amy - 6 years

The competition was fierce and some of the cars had mechanical problems.

All of the drivers received medals and gifts from the Friends of Ferrari.

Special thanks to Sybille Jackel and her assistant who were the drivers' managers. Drivers' manager is a really important position because they make sure the drivers have water and are having fun as the wait for their turn to race. Without the managers we could not hold the event.

We thank all of our Racecourse volunteers. They build the course in the early morning of race day. They move the cars into racing line and watch that all the racers are safe. At the end of the race they dismantle the course and return all the cars and equipment to storage.

Since we are a 100% volunteer group all of the money raised is given to charity.

In November World Champion Zachary will fly to Italy to visit Maranello and Milan . This is a special gift we receive from Ferrari.

SEPT. 9

What an exciting race day.  We held a street race on Cordoba at Cambie in the centre of Vancouver.  Thanks to the Vancouver Police for their assistance. 

This was the WOODWARDS GRAN PRIX and a donation was presented to Garry Jobin of the Blade Runners and Stephen Learey of Strathcona Health Services.

Thanks to Vancouver City Councilors Jim Green (official starter) and Raymond Louie for assisting us with presentations.

The opening day of the Friends of Ferrari 2007 fundraising season was held at the Italian Cultural Centre.  Special guests were the drivers from the 2006 season.  Each driver who attended received a special gift from the Friends of Ferrari.  One drivers won a new bike donated by London Drugs a new team member.  Everyone enjoyed pizza and pastries from Team Member Claudio of La Piazza Restaurant.  We have recruited another Team Member for 2007

The Future Shop.

We have just received a special flag created by artist

Simona Alfonsi, to replace the one that was stolen in November 2006. Once again she has donated this giant flag to the Friends of Ferrari.  Big thanks to Simona Alfonsi as this is the backdrop flag for all of our presentations.

We have recovered three of the five racing cars which were stolen.  But we are still missing all of the battery chargers, flags, wall hangings, etc.  If you see one of our cars please inform us or the police.  They are very unusual and you will notice them easily if they are driven in your neighbourhood or area.
